Council Meeting
“Behind The Meter” Electric Generation Analysis
September 2, 2025 at 7 p.m.
A public presentation will be made by GDS consultants who analyzed potential options for a future Borough owned electric generation system known as “Behind The Meter” generation.
This type of system would generate electricity on-site to offset the Borough’s purchase power costs from the electric grid. Middletown is one of only 35 municipalities in Pennsylvania that is fortunate to have its own electric distribution grid. Since we own a local distribution grid, why not build our own small generation facility in order to reduce our costs and dependence on electric energy from other power plants, grid operators and electric power brokers such as the PJM? The savings realized from on-site generation would be passed on to you, the customer.
If it is decided to move forward, further analysis will be needed to determine the affordability of constructing our own generation facility. We believe the skyrocketing costs to get the electric to Middletown’s distribution system warrant serious consideration of the alternative power generation technologies available to public electric providers like Middletown. What do you think?
