Main Street to open for Fourth of July weekend
Crews will be removing all barriers and opening the road beginning at noon today. The entire route will remain open until Monday, when work on replacing the sewer and water mains under the road will resume.
The current detour pattern will be reinstated for two days while work between Spruce and North Union streets is completed. Wednesday (July 8), the work will shift to the area of the square at North Union and Main streets. That intersection is expected to be closed through Monday, July 13.
Work will move to the section of East Main Street between North Union and Catherine streets on Tuesday, July 14.
The project, which involves rehabilitating almost a mile of sewer and water mains beneath the Borough’s main east-west artery, got underway March 16. Work is expected to be completed in August, when PennDOT plans to repave Route 230.
Work on the project began east of Hoffer Street and is moving west in five stages. Trucks and most through traffic are being be detoured using state Route 283. Local traffic detours will shift with each stage of the project.
