Volunteers to join Borough crews for park cleanup

The Borough of Middletown will celebrate Earth Day with a “clean up the park” work day Wednesday in Hoffer Park.

Borough offices will be closed for the day to allow all Borough employees to take part. Joining them will be employees from Fed-Ex and the Borough’s new water-sewer partners, United Water. Approximately 20 participants are also expected from Harrisburg Area Community College’s Youth Build program.

In addition to manpower, United Water will also supplement the Borough’s Public Works crew with a dump truck and other equipment.

Plans call for giving the park’s pavilions and light poles a fresh coat of paint. Crews will also repaint the Kids Kastle playground and replenish the “wood carpet” playground mulch. The volleyball court in Hoffer will also see its sand replenished.

Also, Gingrich Memorials, of Middletown, will power wash and refurbish the Hoffer Memorial which is located in the park and Street Stores Hardware, which is in the process of opening a location on East Main Street, will replace the main Hoffer Park entrance sign.

Work will get underway at 7:30 a.m. and will be ongoing throughout the day.
